This is the first book Raymond Hou has worked on since the first half of 2026. Its subject continues his “Super Individual” methodology. For Raymond, it is an attempt to deliver the same body of experience through a new medium, following the 55-unit online course The Super Individual’s Way of Working (55-Unit Online Course) launched in 2025. It is also the first time in his body of work that he has entered the publishing format (see Complete Works Index).
Relationship to the Course
In public statements, Raymond has repeatedly referred to the book and course together as “my course / book”; both use the same material and framework. At the end of June 2026, he turned this content into “Super Individual Consultant” (ask.lifehacker.tw), a question-and-answer AI made available first to course students, to help with specific problems involving quitting a job and freelancing, pricing freelance work, lack of time, and getting started with a personal brand. 1 The product began with Raymond’s question, while preparing an AI Agent course, of how to extract one person’s expertise. His own course and manuscript were the most convenient examples.
Effect on the 2026 Production Schedule
Writing the book was one of the main variables shaping Raymond’s work in 2026. In a public reflection marking the course’s first anniversary, he explained that he had “thrown himself into writing a book” while also preparing a major AI Agent course, leaving no capacity to hold an in-person gathering for students that year. He postponed the gathering until after publication and publicly encouraged students to organize co-learning and in-person exchanges themselves. 2
The manuscript also changed the format of his other content. For his midyear summary at the end of June 2026, he originally planned to combine newsletter articles and diary entries into a long essay. He eventually presented 19 short statements with annotations and space between them, explaining, “I’ve already been writing too many words for the book lately.” 3 The summary gathered several of his core judgments at the time, including: “AI can give you a hundred answers and proposals, but only your judgment can decide which one is the answer you want—and, more importantly, the responsibility you are willing to take on,” as well as questions about work that “creates the future” versus work that merely “coasts on momentum.”
Chapter Structure
In late September 2026, Raymond said publicly that about 80 percent of the manuscript was finalized. Rather than rewriting the course’s 55 units one by one, he curated them into four “gates”: dispelling myths (going beyond evaluation), empowerment (building systems), monetization (productizing to survive), and integration (designing proactively). Another structural choice distinguishes the book from the course: between gates, he includes retrospective letters he wrote at different stages of life, using real detours and struggles to connect the strategies across chapters. 4
